The Songmics OBG73BRV1 is for you if you’re a console or PC gamer and you’re mainly looking for relaxation during your gaming sessions.
It’s the equivalent of a good sofa for someone who likes to relax in front of the TV, except that your guilty pleasure is gaming!
Everything has been designed to perfect relaxation and comfort:
The high-density foam, the footrest and the 135° recline (I’ll explain later why this is particularly top-notch).
The clear advantage of this model over the competition is that it’s a perfect hybrid between an office chair and a recliner (without spending 400-500€)!
Does that mean you already know everything?
No, not yet, so follow me closely throughout this review, as I’ve got a lot more to tell you!
Sommaire
What I love about this chair is that, for a very affordable price, it will allow you to use it in many different ways from “normal” chairs.
To find out if it’s right for you, answer these two questions:
If you answered yes to these questions and are looking for a comfortable, durable chair, you can continue reading the review.
If the footrest or relaxation aspect isn’t something you’re looking for, I’d recommend instead, for a similar price, looking at my review of the RCG12W here or my top of the best gaming chairs here if you’re prepared to spend more money.
As for playing time, on this model more than the others, it depends on how you use it.
When seated, the lack of a tilt mechanism bothered me a little, but…
Lying down with the footrest, I can happily stay like this all day long.
The best use for it, in my opinion, is really lying down with the footrest and a joystick in my hands!
In terms of morphology, the maximum recommended weight is 150 kg (and that’s understandable, as the OBG73BRV1 is a real beast)!
As for height, I’d recommend it if you’re between 1.55 and 1.80 m tall.

The foam in the seat is semi-firm, which is excellent for preventing back pain… or fighting it.
Or to combat them, unlike a recliner where you’ll sink into it.
And why is that?
Because a chair that’s too soft doesn’t provide any support, so you’re not in the right posture, and it stretches the wrong parts of your body.
Secondly, the OBG73BRV1’s foam is high-density (well, I couldn’t find the exact density), but that means it’s at least 28kg/m3!
What’s in it for you?
A longer-lasting chair that won’t end up flattened after 6 months’ use.
Simply put, it’s a guarantee of quality and durability: you’ll enjoy the same seating comfort for as long as you use the chair.
To match the footrest for maximum relaxation, the songmics OBG73BRV1 is a chair without side cheeks.
So you’ll have complete freedom of movement.
You can take up as much space as you like.
You can put yourself in any position you like, as the aim of this gaming chair is really to relax you.
So you won’t be held down or blocked by the side cheeks, because there aren’t any!
This is the 1st gaming chair with footrest that I’ve reviewed!
The lack of a tilting mechanism is a bit annoying in a seated position.
I like the seat to rock with me, so I can sit longer.
But it’s entirely compensated for by the presence of the footrest!
The footrest is made of foam, super comfortable, and I’ve sat on it for HOURS without my feet hurting.
Quite simply, I’m writing this article lying on the chair, because I’ve really adopted this position.
At first I was worried about its sturdiness, but it holds up very well.
It doesn’t move and I’ve tried to deliberately force it (without overdoing it, of course) and it’s really solid.
The big advantage of the footrest that you don’t really think about is that you can pull it all the way out, or just a little, depending on your size.
In fact, the footrest is practically “adjustable” – you don’t have to extend it all the way out, but…
You can extend it just a few centimetres if you like.
Playing the console or computer with the joystick is a pure pleasure, and I’m not even talking about movies/series.
In concrete terms, the gas cylinder does its job well, the spring force is good, the seat rises quickly, etc. There’s no jerking up (which would indicate a low-end cylinder), but a good rise that’s practically instantaneous.
There’s no jerky rise (which would indicate a low-end cylinder) but a good rise that’s virtually instantaneous.
It’s also solid and sturdy, so I don’t really have anything to say about it except…
That a class 3 gas cylinder is still not as good as a class 4 gas cylinder in terms of robustness and spring force.
Nevertheless, this is common for this kind of price.
The chair’s skeleton is made of steel, and you’ll find steel everywhere. This is important, because it’s both strong and light.
So you won’t have any trouble transporting it, and on top of that, it’s sturdy and durable.
Steel is the material of choice for the frame of a gaming chair.
And I’ve got nothing to say about that – it looks tough as nails.
Nevertheless, a nylon base is more “basic”, so…
It’ll do, because it’s got a tensile strength of several hundred kg.
Still, it’s not as good as aluminum or metal.
But which do you prefer?
Spend a fortune on a gaming chair with an aluminum base…
Or take advantage of an affordable price with a nylon base that already withstands a pressure point of around 200kg anyway?
Well, that’s the least advantageous point of the songmics OBG73BRV1.
The armrests can’t be adjusted.
Adjustable armrests are essential for an ergonomically correct posture.
They enable you to adjust them to the height of your elbows and desk, but also to the angle of your arms, etc.
There’s none of that here, and I think it’s partly justified by the fact that this gaming chair is first and foremost a chair for relaxing.
To this end, the armrests are superbly well padded with foam, so they’re very comfortable and won’t hurt your elbows.
The footrest is also what makes me say that this is first and foremost a gaming relaxation chair.
As far as adjustable armrests are concerned, Songmics already knows what to do, notably with the RCG12W, which I also recommended at the start of this article.
However, the RCG12W is more about “pure” seating, whereas the OBG73BRV1 is really about relaxation.
The Songmics OBG73BRV1’s design already offers something more than other gaming chairs.
There are no side cheeks, so it has both a “gaming” feel thanks to its aesthetics and use of the color red, and…
An “office” or “recliner” feel, as it’s not a bucket seat.
What’s more, I think the design has been well worked out, in the sense that you’ll notice right away that there’s a nice play of red all the time placed at the extremities.
It gives a “regular” look that flatters the eye!
It’s also available in other colors, such as black and blue (OBG073B04), black and grey (OBG073B03) and black and white (OBG73BW).
All these models are the same, but in different colors to adapt more easily to your environment.
Red won’t suit everyone, because it’s very gaming, very flashy, and in that case a more sober model like the OBG73BW will suit you better!
I would, however, have loved to see the brand logo embroidered somewhere on the chair!
But would you like to pay more for that detail? I don’t think so.
The covering is PU leather (better quality than imitation leather, which often turns white and shows threads when worn).
PU leather is a type of plastic that imitates leather.
It’s found on most gaming chairs.
And it offers a better finish than imitation leather, both in terms of durability and quality.
So the songmics OBG73BRV1 won’t end up chipped and worn after a few months’ use, and I like that!
Not paying too much for a gaming chair is a good point, but it obviously has to last.
Then, mainly for aesthetics, there are certain parts, notably the contours of the chair, which are made of textile.
With the songmics OBG73BRV1 you get two cushions free of charge.
They’re really important, because the neck cushion reproduces the natural curvature of your neck.
Try as far as possible to obtain a neck inclination of 0°.
This will prevent migraines, neck pain and other similar problems.
The lumbar support is designed to reproduce the natural curvature of your lumbar vertebrae, which is around 25-45°.
The aim is to take care of your back and avoid lower back pain, even with prolonged use!
So use them again and again.
The lumbar cushion holds very well when seated.
Ditto for the headrest, although the lumbar cushion tends to slip when lying down.
The seams are regular, clean and solid, so you won’t have any durability problems on that score.
Where it’s a bit of a shame, though, is that the finishes are a bit “cheap”.
All the covers are plastic, the armrests are plastic, as is the cover for the footrest, and so on.
Nevertheless, this is common for gaming chairs at this price point if you want a more polished finish…
You’ll probably have to pay double the current price.
I’ve deliberately shown it from the back, which is usually the least worked side of a gaming chair, so you can make up your own mind.
The castors roll well, in fact they roll very well on linoleum, and it’s rare that this happens to me.
That’s usually the problem with castors: they struggle to roll on this type of surface.
This one rolls very well.
50mm is a normal caster size, the only drawback is that it will be more complicated to go over thick surfaces.
Nevertheless, I doubt it’s a defect, as few people use their chairs to get around.
The backrest of the songmics OBG73BRV1 can be tilted up to 135°…
Of course, some chairs can be tilted up to 180°, but this is often superfluous.
The best tilt (in terms of back pressure and comfort) is around 130°, according to this summary of research and studies. (pubmed link).
So, as well as being the best position for watching films and TV series, or for relaxing and playing games, it’s also the best position – and it’s scientifically proven.
You’ll be able to enjoy a relaxed, comfortable position.
To the right of the seat is a lever for raising and lowering the chair.
Next to this is a “lock” lever that lets you lock the chair in any position between 90 and 135°.
This is super handy for finding the right position in which you’ll be most comfortable.
Finally, you can expand/stow the footrest under the seat as you wish.
Assembly is very quick, taking less than 20 minutes.
The backrest is super easy to fit, but I had a bit of trouble screwing it in properly, which was my only complication during assembly!
The instructions are very well explained and the drawings are well done and show which screws to use.
The tools needed for assembly are supplied with the chair.
Customer reviews are unanimous for this gaming chair, so I’ll let you see for yourself:
And if you’re looking for reviews like this, check out the 3 of them!
The RCG12W features 2D armrests, up to 135° recline and high-density foam.
I’d recommend it if you’re looking for a “normal” gaming chair, i.e. without the footrests and the “relaxed” feel of the OBG73BRV1.
Read the Songmics RCG12W review.
The OBG62B, however the armrests are not adjustable, the backrest is not swiveling, frankly for the tiny difference in price you’d be better off buying an OBG73BRV1!
