Well, guys, today’s your lucky day!
You’re about to discover the sharpest, most technologically advanced and, above all, the best gaming chair on the market.
Sure, you’re going to be thinking, “What’s that carpet salesman want with his monster hunter gaming chair?”
But you’ll soon realize that this is no joke.
Let’s take a closer look:
And that’s just part of what’s in store for you in the rest of this review.
So take the time to read it all.
The brand’s ambition is to offer you top-quality gaming chairs.
Here we don’t do half-measures, we only do quality.
Secretlab was founded in 2014 by two gamers who were semi-pro on Starcraft.
So with all their accumulated gaming hours, they knew by force what gamers needed.
So they launched their brand with the aim of making the best chair on the market.
And they’ve succeeded – they’ve issued lots of patents and are doing a lot of research into the chair.
Anyway, follow me if you want to know more!
Sommaire
Then, folks, it’s made for you on two conditions:
And if you’ve got both, you’ve hit the jackpot!
Because, in practical terms, this chair is for perfectionist gamers who really want to maximize functionality and…
Who want a unique chair.
Because the Secretlab Monster Hunter has everything it takes to be the ultimate in ergonomics.
It even has an adjustment that can only be found at Secretlab:
The lumbar support, adjustable in both height and volume, while still being integrated (I’ll tell you why it’s super important later in the review).
But did you really think that was all?
No, the Monster Hunter is also available in several sizes to fit YOU ENTIRELY.
You’ll find :
And it’s really important to have a chair that fits you.
This way, the seat won’t be too deep, and you’ll be able to sit comfortably at the back of your chair without your knees knocking against the edge of the seat.
Likewise, you won’t have the problem of a backrest that’s too big or too small.
And a little bonus at the end… The Secretlab is so good that it came first in my ranking of the best gaming chairs for the back.
So I’m not patting you on the back, it’s just that it’s really really good.

In addition to being patent-pending (which testifies to its uniqueness), the foam is high-density and specially designed (I’ll tell you more in 2 minutes).
First and foremost, high-density foam is what makes your Monster Hunter gaming chair stand the test of time without a care in the world.
The foam won’t sag, which means your seat won’t end up like Homer Simpson’s sofa!
And that’s…
This is super important, because believe me, it happens more often than you think on low-end foam.
Secondly, in terms of firmness, it’s still quite firm (which is perfect, because a seat that’s too soft is bad for your back).
And on the contrary…
Firm foam is great for your back.
And now, as promised, its special design lies in the fact that the foam has been engineered to distribute your weight evenly across the entire chair.
Thanks to this, you won’t have a part of your body or a muscle that tires faster on one side than the other AND…
And, of course, it improves your blood circulation, since no one part of your body will bear more weight than the other.
In short, you’ll be able to play longer without fear of pain.
But that’s not all.
But that’s not all.
The seat has also been designed in the shape of a “pebble” (that’s what they call it, not me).
Basically, this means that the seat has a special shape that will hold you securely in the middle of the chair.
And that’s just great.
I’m sure you’ve all had that chair where you slide forward?
This won’t happen, so you won’t end up slumped over.
Side bracing is what makes gaming chairs so appealing.
(By side bolsters, of course, I mean the “sides” of the chair, so you’re held in place).
On the Monster Hunter, they offer extraordinary support and hug the curves of your body really well.
They’re designed to be open to the outside, so they’ll easily adapt to all body shapes (especially as the chair is available in several sizes).
This is one criterion you MUST NOT overlook.
On a chair at this price, and to play for a long time without destroying your back, you absolutely must take into account the tilting mechanism.
Ideally, it should be off-center, not centered.
Fortunately, on Secretlab’s monster hunter chair, the mechanism is off-center.
What’s in it for you?
Because the rocker is at knee level (i.e. off-center), your feet will always touch the floor.
Secondly, it has less impact on your hips (a centered tilting mechanism tends to pull them too much, making them tired in the long run).
And last but not least, it improves blood circulation in your legs and avoids the sensation of having heavy legs like a wrestler’s.
(You also have the option of blocking the rocking mechanism and having a fixed chair, but it’s anything BUT ergonomic to do that, so don’t).
Class 4 gas springs are distinguished by their strength and spring force.
Basically, this means they’re very strong, hard to break and…
That they won’t have the habit that Class 3 gas springs have of “tiring” and making it difficult to raise the chair in height.
You’ve probably had that chair that jerks upwards?
Well, it must have been a class 3 gas lift.
Then, where Secretlab surpasses itself is…
Their jack is shorter than the usual models, so you’ll have even less trouble touching the floor (which is often a problem when you’re not very tall)…
And what’s more, this is a very important point for ergonomics: not touching the floor will block circulation in your legs and create a whole host of problems like that.
Metal is good because it’s extremely strong and light…
Which makes it an ideal choice for your Monster Hunter gaming chair.
Still, that’s pretty mundane, and 90% of chairs have a metal skeleton, so nothing crazy here.
What makes this chair stand out from the rest is that its base (what you attach the castors to) is made of ADC12 aluminum.
It’s a super-strong material, and much more so than gaming chairs that offer a nylon base.
Nylon can withstand pressures of around 100-200kg, whereas aluminum can withstand up to 1 tonne.
As you can see, when it comes to durability, it’s night and day.
And you thought that was all?
Well, no, the chair has also been adjusted for enhanced stability.
And I can vouch for that, because no matter how much you rock backwards, no matter how much you recline backwards, you’ll never be afraid of falling or tipping over.
And that’s a lot of fun.
Another good point is that the armrests on the Monster Hunter can be adjusted in 4 dimensions.
You can adjust the height of the armrests to suit the height of your elbows, taking the strain off your shoulders!
You can also adjust their width (to suit your build).
But that’s not all…
They’re also adjustable in inclination (ideal for positioning them at the angle of your arms when using the keyboard or mouse, so very important in game).
They’re also adjustable from front to back, so you can adapt them to the depth of your desk (especially useful if you’ve got a deep desk).
Then, in terms of comfort, they’re covered in polyurethane leather foam, which is very comfortable and will protect your elbows (no disturbing sensation even after 6 hours’ play).
Finally, what really sets Secretlab apart from the competition is its “Cloudswap” technology.
What’s Cloudswap?
Basically, it means that the armrests are magnetized and easily replaceable.
You can, for example, replace them with memory foam armrests (if you really want to maximize your set-up).
Are you a Monster Hunter fan who fancies having your pet Rathalos in your gaming chair?
I hope you’re well equipped, because he’s not easily tamed…
All kidding aside, don’t you think this Monster Hunter chair is gorgeous?
Frankly, Secretlab have done something really crazy.
They’re the only brand to create so many designs, and above all, GOOD designs.
Rathalos’ details are exceptional.
For example, in addition to his effigy on the backrest, you can find his claws on the side and…
I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but everything has been done to make it look realistic: the sides of the chair look as if they’ve been made from dragon skin.
So you’ve officially hunted down your Rathalos and turned it into a gaming chair!
I wouldn’t recommend showing it to your gaming buddies – they might get jealous.
The best thing about Secretlab’s Neo Hybrid Leatherette is that it looks very well finished and very premium.
It’s soft, holds up very well over time, and has no chance of ending up cracked, even if…
Even if you’re used to wearing jeans and rubbing your feet all over the seat.
There’s a reason why it’s said to be 12 times more resistant than normal pu leather.
It’s designed to be as tough as animal skin, which tells you just how good an investment it is.
With its Monster Hunter gaming chair, Secretlab takes innovation one step further.
For example, the headrest is magnetized and is even patent-pending.
What’s in it for you?
It means a more easily adjustable headrest (no need to bother with straps to fasten, which severely limit adjustment possibilities) and…
What’s more, it’s ultra-comfortable, because it’s been infused with cooling gel, which will regulate your body temperature and prevent you from sweating in summer.
My advice: put the headrest at the nape of your neck. It helps keep your neck in a neutral position, so you won’t feel any pain there.
Then, another great innovation…
The L-adapt lumbar support integrated directly into the chair.
So here…
No physical lumbar support that’s too difficult to adjust or that tends to move during the day.
No, you adjust your integrated lumbar support just once, and then you can forget about it, it won’t move again.
And best of all, when it comes to adjustments, you’re in for a treat…
It’s adjustable in both volume and height, so it’s easy to adapt to all types of morphology.
No more cushions that are too big, too small or too voluminous – the choice is yours.
My advice: don’t neglect this adjustment or you’ll NEVER be able to sit comfortably without back pain.
What’s the problem?
Well, your spine forms a natural S-shaped curve.
So when you’re sitting, it’s vital to reproduce this curve, and what better way than…
Integrated lumbar support to reproduce this curve?
What’s more, it provides extra support that limits fatigue in your lumbar muscles (if they’re tired, you’ll tend to slouch, and get into a vicious circle that will get you used to this bad position…).
A very interesting finish, which you won’t find on any other chair for the moment, is the fact that the armrests are magnetized.
As well as being a rare and very useful finishing touch (you can replace them in no time, increasing the chair’s lifespan), it also allows you to …
Change them for memory foam armrests, if you’re interested!
Then, as well as having impeccable, regular and solid seams, they’re also fitted with…
An NFC certificate system directly integrated into the chair, which you can scan with any NFC application on your phone.
At this level, it’s almost a luxury item…
To increase the chair’s durability, the castors are extra-wide.
They roll well on all types of floor, except that they struggle on linoleum, as do almost all the pairs of castors I’ve tested.
That said, if you’re really unhappy about this, you can replace them for very little money.
Otherwise, on the practical side, I liked the fact that they retain virtually no dust.
That’s important, because I’ve had quite a few chairs with castors that absorbed dust, and it was a real nuisance.
With a backrest angle of up to 165°, you’ll have good support for your back, head and shoulders, whatever position you prefer.
In fact, 165° gives you plenty of scope to find a position that suits YOU.
However…
If you want my advice, 130-140° is the best inclination, as it reduces the pressure imposed on your vertebrae.
Then, I must inform you that 165° is not the best inclination there is.
There are chairs that go up to 180°, and as much as I have no problem telling you when something is top-notch, you have to tell you when it’s not.
In this respect, the Secretlab Monster Hunter isn’t the best there is.
However, personally I don’t mind, I rarely play lying down and 165° of inclination is enough for me to watch streams in a relaxed position.
There are several settings to be aware of:
The lever under the seat, on the right-hand side, is used to raise and lower the chair.
The lever under the seat, on the left-hand side, is used to lock/unlock the rocker.
The large knob under the seat is used to adjust the tension of the rocker mechanism (you need to adjust this according to your weight).
The lever on the right-hand side of the seat, close to the backrest, is used to recline the backrest.
Now, on the backrest you have two castors.
The one on the left adjusts the height of the lumbar support.
The one on the right adjusts the volume of the lumbar support.
For the armrests…
There’s a button on the outside of each armrest, which you simply press to raise/lower the armrests.
At the end of each armrest, there’s a small knob that lets you adjust the angle.
The rest of the adjustments are made directly by manipulating the armrests (for example, by spreading them apart for width, or by moving them backwards and forwards).
Let me reassure you right away:
The Monter Hunter gaming chair is super-easy to assemble.
Even if you assemble it yourself, it won’t take you more than 20 minutes at the most.
Everything has been done to make it easy for you:
What more can you ask for?
And on the technical side:
In short, I have nothing to reproach them for.
If you’re like me, you’re pretty puzzled by what you can read on the internet and…
You’re right!
(At the same time, I admit I’m not going to tell you you’re wrong about something I make myself, haha).
So here are a few screenshots of what others are saying about Secretlab chairs:
(Well, you’ll have to forgive me, I was too lazy to look for a review that included a Monster Hunter. They’ve got over 40,000 reviews, so I gave up).
But here’s what others have to say, you can go and see for yourself, it’s praise after praise after praise…
DXRacer is the brand we all know and love.
So when it comes to the best gaming chairs around, I had to include them among the alternatives.
The DXRacer Air is one of their best creations, thanks to its mesh backrest, 4D adjustable armrests, off-center tilt mechanism, integrated lumbar support and more.
The only drawback with the DXRacer Air is that you lose the ability to adjust the volume of the lumbar support (it’s only height-adjustable).
That’s why I prefer the Secretlab, even though the two are neck and neck, and the DXRacer Air’s mesh effect makes it really comfortable.
Finally, I’ve only mentioned the DXRacer AIR, but my comparison talks about other DXRacer chairs if you’re on a lower budget. It’s just that the DXRacer AIR is the only one to rival the Secretlab, the others just don’t measure up.
Read my reviews of ALL DXRacer chairs.
If you’re on a tight budget, you can turn to Quersus.
It’s got everything the Secretlab Monster has, except…
The integrated lumbar support is not volume-adjustable, which from an ergonomic point of view is a real shame, and…
The headrest and armrests aren’t magnetized, and you lose out on a few other adjustments, such as backrest tilt (it only goes up to 135°).
But it’s still an interesting alternative if you realize you don’t have the budget for a Secretlab chair.
Read my Quersus reviews.
And finally, my Corsair chair comparison.
I often hear my fellow gamers talking about the Corsair brand.
Whether it’s for their ram strips or their peripherals.
However, when it comes to their gaming chairs, they do a good job, but I don’t have to tell you that it’s not as good as Quersus, and not as good as Secretlab.
Not as good as DXRacer? In that case, it depends on the model, so I can’t say for sure.
Read my Corsair reviews.
When you spend most of your day at the computer…
The ideal is to take as much care as possible of your back to avoid suffering while playing, but also…
To avoid having problems later on and no longer being able to practice your passion.
I know that playing while in pain is a real ordeal.
And…
The Secretlab Monster Hunter is a really good choice to avoid that.
With its magnetic headrest, integrated lumbar cushion, 4D armrests, pebble seat, patent-pending foam…
You couldn’t make a better choice than to treat yourself to this chair.
