The Quersus ICOS is the brand’s latest addition! It rounds off the high-end range with a super-ergonomic Quersus gaming chair.

In fact, in addition to features similar to those found on most high-end gaming chairs (though with many special features to which I’ll return later)…

It offers features never before seen on a gamer chair, such as :

An adjustable headrest, so it can be placed wherever YOU find it most comfortable, just like on a car.
An adjustable seat depth, and I just LOVE it – no more knees knocking against the seat for the little ones, or knees 10km away from the seat for the big ones! You’ll finally be able to enjoy a truly ergonomic seat.

I’ve been hoping for a long time that a gamer chair would finally start offering adjustable seats…

What I like about Quersus is that they are constantly researching and innovating.

And here, I’m feeling it with the ICOS, they’ve dared to do what many haven’t dared (or thought of doing).

They’ve clearly taken it upon themselves to live up to their slogan “The future of comfort” by offering features you’ll only find with them.

But what I like even more is that they listen to the needs of gamers, and that’s something you really feel when you own a Quersus chair.

Finally! Don’t leave me hanging, it’s going to be a long test, but I promise you’ll learn a lot!

Who is Quersus ICOS right for?

Quersus
ICOS
quersus icos swf textile scaled.jpg

To find out if the Quersus ICOS is right for you, you need to ask yourself how you use a chair.

Do you spend many hours sitting, playing or working?

If so, it’s perfect for you, because it’s designed to combine ergonomics and comfort while reducing the fatigue felt after long hours of sitting.

I’m talking about 5-8 hours sitting (and more).

If you don’t spend much time sitting, unless you have a lot of money to spend, you can go for a less expensive chair.

If you want to stick with a quality gamer chair, you could go for the best gamer chair.

The Quersus ICOS (and Quersus as a whole) really aims for the very top of the range and performance.

So it’s only suitable for gamers who want to sit (super) well, and for whom ergonomics are very important.

If that’s your case, that’s perfect, and I encourage you to read the whole test. If it’s not your case, you’ll be wasting your time.

Size-wise, the extraordinary thing about the ICOS is that thanks to its adjustable headrest and seat, as well as its “shape” (I’ll come back to this later)… It will fit any size!

The only limit will be the weight, 150kg maximum, which is already very permissive.

Quality QRS Cold-Cure cold foam (55kg/m3)

foam quersus icos

Here you’ll find Quersus’ proprietary foam, QRS Cold-Cure.

It’s a top-quality cold foam.

What’s in it for you?

It’s highly breathable, absorbs moisture well, so you won’t sweat in summer.

With ICOS, there’s no need to put a towel on the back of your chair like some streamers do in summer!

But that’s not all.

Its density of 55kg/m3 (which is optimal for ergonomics) means that the foam will never sag and will always regain its shape.

So no matter how much time you spend on it, the foam won’t end up sunken, which is great for durability and for enjoying first-day comfort every day.

In terms of firmness, it’s firm without being completely hard either.

Which is good news once again for comfort, as firmness is highly recommended to combat back pain.

Side cheeks designed to hug the body without unnecessary pressure zones

sides icos quersus

Yet another advantage of the ICOS…

The backrest (and seat, for that matter) have been designed to fit your whole body perfectly, without putting unnecessary pressure on it.

I’ve got broad shoulders, so the side cheeks often hold me down too much, which I used to like, but now…

I’ve got more freedom and the shape has been very well designed, so I feel well “wedged” in the chair without the sensation of being “touched from everywhere”.

I have to confess that I hadn’t really realized this before on other chairs, as it’s so common!

Its shape has really been designed to maximize comfort, whatever the build of the person using it, and you can feel it in use.

Synchronous rocker with seat adjustment

tilting synchronous gaming chair

The main advantage of owning a high-end gaming chair is its synchronous tilting mechanism.

In concrete terms, what we call the synchronous mechanism is the way in which the chair (back and seat) tilts.

There are several mechanisms (I won’t go into detail about all of them), but you should know that synchronous is the best.

It allows :

  • Better blood circulation in the legs, with feet always touching the floor (so next leg pain).
  • More dynamic sitting (the secret to staying seated longer without discomfort is to be able to move freely on your seat and not remain static).
  • Because you can move around more freely, your muscles can move more during the day, so they share out the work and don’t tire as quickly.
  • Less pressure on the hips.
  • Constant contact with the backrest throughout the tilt (necessary for good support and to avoid back pain).

Note that you can adjust the tension of the rocking mechanism according to your weight (or even block it if you don’t like it, but I wouldn’t recommend it for your back).

And what I loved about this gaming chair and haven’t yet found on any other:

The ability to adjust the seat depth.

You can pull or push the seat to adjust it to your body (ideally, you should be able to put two fingers between your leg and the seat).

This way, it’s neither too close nor too far away.

This greatly increases comfort and allows you to sit longer (and for the little ones among you, you won’t have to worry about your knees knocking against the seat, preventing you from sitting at the back of the chair…).

And what better way to get your seat to the right distance… than an adjustable seat?

A class 4 piston (top of the range)

gaslift quersus

Well, I’ll pass quickly over that, as it’s common to most gamer chairs at this price.

A class 4 gas piston is what controls the chair’s spring force.

Its ability to rise smoothly without jerking, for example.

Class 4 gas springs give you peace of mind, and by the way, they’re also the strongest class.

However, what I really like about this chair is that it descends particularly low, so it’s really easy to adapt to yourself.

Q-Fortis aluminum base and intracostal construction

foot cross

The aluminum base: you can’t get much better than this.

This is the most premium material for a gamer chair base.

It’s about 10 times stronger than basic nylon bases.

That’s how solid you’ll be for a long time to come.

It also ensures stable seating.

What’s more, the Quersus Q-Fortis aluminum base is designed and patented by Quersus, so you’ll only find it there!

The rest of the chair is either in stainless steel (for durability, to avoid rust, etc.) or in a construction only seen on the Quersus ICOS…

The “intercostal” construction is a clever set-up, which again I’ve only seen on Quersus.

In simple terms, it’s a seamless, single-form construction.

This means the seat won’t deform and will keep its shape all the time, and will also ensure perfect durability and you’ll always be sitting properly in it.

This particular construction makes it more resistant to breakage and cracking under heavy loads.

And the final advantage of this form of construction is that the seat is lighter and more durable!

As for durability, I can confirm that it’s very solid.

As for lightness, it’s certainly not as heavy as most high-end gaming chairs, but we’re still talking about 27kg, which is still almost 5kg less than the Quersus Vaos 501.

So real progress, but don’t expect to lift it with one hand (don’t dream either).

Quality 4D armrests

armrest quersus icos

I wasn’t expecting anything other than 4D armrests for a high-end gaming chair.

As for comfort, they’re padded with a little foam on top that’s firm and supportive, while keeping your elbows protected and comfortable.

When you set them up, as with most gaming chairs, you can already choose whether you’d like a closer or further apart spacing.

Then, and this is the magic of 4D armrests, you’ll be able to :

  • Adjust them up and down to suit your elbow height (a 90° angle is recommended to relieve pressure on your shoulders)
  • Adjust them in width to suit your build (what’s the point of armrests if your elbows can’t touch them?)
  • Adjust them from front to back (I find this super practical, as I like to be almost glued to my desk, and as a rule when I put the armrests at the right height, they bang against my desk, so I can move them back and save space)
  • Adjust them to different angles (for example, a straight armrest for the mouse, and an inward-facing armrest for comfortable access to the keyboard).

As you can see, 4D armrests are the ultimate in ergonomics.

A modern, patented design

quersus icos reviews

No one can deny that the Quersus ICOS has a thoroughly modern design!

However, I’d say it’s a little less futuristic than the white VAOS 501 model, but it’s still much bolder than the competition generally makes it.

For those who love to choose the color of their model, sorry to disappoint you, but it’s only available here in black (UHL imitation leather, more on that later) or in black/dark gray (SWF fabric, more on that later).

However, for those who want to personalize their objects and give them a personal touch…

You can have your logo, nickname or anything else you like embroidered on the headrest of your chair!

As for the attention to detail on the chair as a whole…

I can only applaud the effort made to personalize it with the brand’s effigy!

For example, in addition to the embroidery on the headrest and backrest, you’ll find other details that are less obvious at first glance.

Such as the ICOS EDITION ONE embroidery on the right-hand side of the seat, Quersus engraved on the front of the seat, and even on the foot cross!

You’ll also find the mark engraved on the back of the backrest (and by the way, I was intrigued to see if the fingerprints remain, they fade within 5-10 seconds!).

All in all, aesthetically speaking, I’m very happy with it.

Two coverings available: SWF fabric & UHL imitation leather

coating fabric quersus

For the Quersus ICOS, you can choose between two types of covering:

  • Solid Woven Fibre (SWF).

This is made up of breathable fabric (SWF), faux suede and UHL imitation leather.

The model I have is the fabric model, and as you’ll see from the photos, you have fabric parts, faux suede parts and simili parts.

Rather than getting bogged down in technicalities, what’s in it for you?

Well, if you tend to sweat in summer, fabric is perfect, as it’s an absorbent material.

However, if you tend to eat or drink on the chair, there are two options.

Either you’re confident you won’t get any stains… Or avoid the fabric model, as it’s always trickier to clean than imitation.

What’s more, gamer chairs with faux suede are rare: they’re ultra-soft and pleasant to the touch.

  • UHL (Ultra-soft Hybrid Leatherette), which translates as “Similicuir Hybride Ultra-doux”.

Which is composed of UHL imitation and faux suede!

So I’d advise you to choose it if you tend to eat/drink while playing, but also if you prefer the more “premium” look that imitation provides.

But avoid if you have animals that might claw at it.

As for how it feels to the touch, not having had this model, I can’t tell you more!

"Rest-Flow" adjustable headrest with integrated lumbar support

headrest quersus icos

A first for this gaming chair, the headrest is… Adjustable!

This means you can easily adjust the headrest to suit your height, just as you would in a car.

I found it comfortable, even if I find the headrest a little too far forward in the “normal” sitting position, but perfect in a well reclined position at 110-120-130-140°.

Otherwise, when seated, I find it annoying, but you can always remove the headrest at will (phew!).

The lumbar support is integrated (so there’s no need for a cushion) and it’s well positioned, so it’s great for respecting the curvature of your back and avoiding back pain, but…

I would have liked it to be adjustable in size and height by means of a knob, which is not the case here.

Extreme attention to detail and quality finishes

review quersus icos

As a general rule, when you take a photo of a gaming chair from the back, you see the seat from behind and a host of other details that can sometimes be poorly worked in.

Especially on low-end gaming chairs.

But here… With their single-material, intercostal construction, the back is just impeccable, and there’s nothing to complain about…

The seat upholstery, as you may have noticed from the other photos, is well drawn, with no creases, and the same goes for the backrest.

Everything fits together perfectly and the stitching threads are impeccable, with nothing sticking out (otherwise you could have easily seen it from the back at a glance).

I can really tell that great attention has been paid to detail.

And that goes far beyond choosing sturdy, high-quality materials.

Floor-protecting castors and voluntarily slow-moving

castors icos

The castors are made of polyurethane-coated plastic to avoid damaging your floors.

So far, there’s nothing necessarily extraordinary about them, apart from their very modern aesthetic.

Where the ICOS stands out is that the castors are deliberately not very slippery, to give you greater stability and avoid having to readjust the chair all the time.

That’s nice, and I think it will suit 95% of users, because I know that some of you love to “throw” yourselves from one desk to another.

If you’re one of those 5%, you can always change castors.

I used to like it too, but I have to say that now that I’ve had a taste of castors that move very little, I’m starting to appreciate it.

And finally, the question on everyone’s mind… I’ve left the castors untouched for over a month, and they haven’t picked up a speck of dust despite the use!

Backrest tilts and locks up to 140°

inclination quersus icos

On its own, 140° isn’t much compared with other chairs, but I think it’s enough.

As for resting on it, watching a film or a series, it’s perfect.

I like to play and work by tilting it all the way back and locking it like that (yes, you can lock it, that’s why it’s tilted on its own in the photo).

You generally need to add a footrest (stool, or anything high enough) to be completely relaxed, and according to one study, the inclination that takes best care of your back is 130°!

The problem is that, generally speaking, other chairs that have a backrest that reclines, well… Only the backrest reclines.

In this case, the seat reclines with it, making it really possible to play/work while reclined backwards.

Finally, the backrest also has an anti-shock system that prevents it from hitting the back.

And… It works really well.

For example, once you’ve locked the backrest in one position or another, you can unlock it, but it won’t come back right away.

For it to come back, you’ve got to rest on it, then just make a little backward movement, and hey presto, the backrest will come with you.

Accessible settings

setting quercus

The settings are very easy to access, as there are a kind of “extension” that you can see in the photo, which makes it easier to grab them or shorten them if necessary.

I’ve never seen anything like it before, and it adds a very pleasant, “easy-to-use” touch to the whole experience).

As for their location…

On the right you have the tilt tension adjustment and the seat height adjustment.

On the left are the synchronous tilt adjustment and the seat length adjustment.

Easy to assemble and well explained

manual quersus icos

As you can see, the building instructions are very detailed and available in several languages.

All the tools you need to assemble your gaming chair are included (by the way, even the detail on the “thing” I don’t know what it’s called… For screwing is very premium).

I just have to tell you that at first I thought I was missing some screws (the E4s) but in fact they were already screwed to the chair!

Otherwise, everything was superbly packaged and protected/sealed under various layers that were really well thought-out and tailor-made for the chair.

A great success.

Assembly took about 20 minutes, and I did it all by myself.

Possible alternatives

secretlab titan evo.jpg

One of the ICOS’ main rivals.

Features are pretty much the same (4D armrests, slightly more reclining backrest, aluminum foot cross, etc.) except that the Titan has no adjustable headrest and no adjustable seat, although it is sold in different sizes to compensate.

On the other hand, the lumbar cushion is integrated and adjustable, and the tilting mechanism is similar, but on the Titan you can tilt the seat and back separately.

It’s up to you to decide what you prefer and what you don’t. I’ve given you a quick summary, but if you’d like to read the full review, please click below.

maxnomic executive edition review

It’s a good match for the ICOS, because it also has a number of similar features, such as 4D armrests, a synchronous tilt mechanism, suede upholstery and an integrated lumbar cushion.

But you lose the adjustable headrest, adjustable seat and all the little extras of the Quersus ICOS (intercostal construction, castors, impeccable finish, modern design, etc.).

Read the Maxnomic Executive Review.

quersus vaos 501 review

How could I not include the VAOS 501, which I was also able to test?

If you have a lower budget, it’s a very good choice, as most of the features are also similar, but…

You lose a lot in ergonomics, with a non-adjustable seat, a non-adjustable headrest, and all the ergonomic and manufacturing details of the ICOS.

Read my Vaos 501 review.

Where to buy Quersus ICOS EDITION ONE?

The objective with the ICOS is to create the most ergonomic gaming chair possible, based as closely as possible on user feedback.

With its 4D armrests, adjustable headrest and adjustable seat, Quersus has succeeded in introducing innovative features that you won’t find on any other gaming chair.

Quite simply, if you want a gaming chair with an adjustable headrest, adjustable armrests, and attention to every physical/ergonomic detail, you don’t have 36 solutions.

Sure, an integrated adjustable lumbar support would have made it perfect, but it makes up for it with other ergonomic elements that can’t be found on any other, which makes the trade-off easy to make.

If you want to buy it while it’s still in stock, just click on the button below to be redirected to the official Quersus website.
